January: celebrated the Twelfth Night Religious feasts and festivals honouring the birth of Jesus and the visit of the Wise Men. February: celebrated love through St Valentine’s Day were the people would sing, dance and play pairing games. March: commemorated the crucifixion and resurrection on Good Friday and Easter Monday. April: admired the jokes and mayhem caused by All Fool’s Day. May: recognized the spring festival for the Queen of the May who is chosen and when the maypole was danced around by the villagers. June: marks the Midsummer’s Eve when the Festival of Fire is held where legends such as St George and the Dragon were remembered. July: acknowledges St. Swithin’s Day. August: holds the festival of the first harvest of the year, Lammas Day. September: celebrated the life of St Michael by the Michaelmas and traditional Michaelmas foods such as geese and chickens were eaten. October: salutes St Crispin’s Day. November: holds The Day of the Dead, All Souls Day or otherwise known as All Hallow’s Day (Halloween). December: honours Christmas celebrations. |
